Outside The Building

There are many memorials, in the form of landscape and placards, placed on and around our building.  The picture to the left is the north side of our property.

These placards recognize

the memorial trees on the

north side of our sanctuary.

Some of the landscaping around the property includes the azaleas, which line the north side of the sanctuary, and the rose garden, along with the crape myrtles, on the south side of our fellowship hall.  The rose garden is kept up by Bill & Jean Matthews.  You can click here, in order to read an article that appeared in the Corpus Christi Caller Times about their work.

Around The Patio

In 1970, just prior to a major huricane, First Presbyterian Church added more classrooms and a fellowship hall.  This addtion allowed for an enclosed patio to the south side of the sanctuary.

As stated in the history section of our web site, our sanctuary and main building were built in 1929 and dedicated in 1930.  Rev. William Mitchell began the effort in 1865,

but formal organization did not come about until 1867.  In 1990, the state of Texas recognized our church building as a historical landmark and the Nueces County Historical Commission conducted a marker dedication ceremony on March18.

Mary Louise McCann, the marker researcher, was presented with a certificate

of appreciation on behalf of the Texas Historical Commission.
