Dear Church Family:

This week we concluded our four-week Lenten study of Bill Hybels book, Just Walk Across the Room.  What a refreshing and stimulating study this has been on the subject of evangelism.  If you missed out on the study for some reason, extra copies of Bill Hybels book are available in the church office at half price ($10.00).

We now turn our thoughts toward Jerusalem.  Holy Week begins this Sunday, April 1st, Palm Sunday, the day Jesus entered Jerusalem for the last time.  Our Children’s Choir will sing and receive palm branches, and as a special treat, the Harvey family will bring to church their burro that is like the one that Jesus rode into Jerusalem.

Then on Thursday, April 5th, at 7:00 p.m., we will have a Maundy Thursday/Tenebrae Service.  This is a very powerful and moving worship service.  We will celebrate Jesus’ Last Supper with communion followed by the Tenebrae Service.  The principal ceremonial feature of the Tenebrae service is the gradual extinction of a number of candles to symbolize the darkness into which Jesus entered, and from which He delivered us.  Seven scripture passages will be read and candles will be extinguished after each reading.  At the end of the service, we will sit in darkness and hear the bells tolling for each year of Christ’s life.  The solo, Were You There When They Crucified My Lord, will be sung and then we will depart in silence.

On Easter morning, April 8th, we will celebrate Christ’s victory over death during our 11:00 a.m. worship service.  The adult choir will be accompanied by a brass quartet and following the service there will be an Easter Egg Hunt for our children on the North lawn.  I hope you will invite a friend and come join us for three wonderful worship services!

Peace and Love,

Jim
